Malcolm Brown

I have been involved with medical education throughout my professional career. Soon after becoming a partner in a large teaching practice in Westhoughton Bolton, I started to teach medical audit across the region. I soon found myself chair of the Medical Audit Advisory Group (MAAG) for the Wigan and Bolton Health Authority.

In 1999 I was appointed GP Tutor and scheme organiser for the Bolton GP vocational training scheme. I also introduced and successfully led medical appraisal for the Bolton PCT.  A few years later the course organizer role became GP Training Program Director. This only ended upon my appointment as Associate Dean

I was appointed Director of Medical Education for Royal Bolton Foundation Trust in 2006 until 2013 when I was appointed Associate Dean.  Bolton is now recognized as a provider of high quality medical education in both primary and secondary care.

My Deanery responsibilities include:-

Supporting the Directors of Medical Education at East Lancashire Hospital trust and Royal Bolton Hospital Foundation Trust.

Supporting the Heads of School and Training Programme Directors running the training programmes in Emergency Medicine and acute Common care Stem (ACCS)

The support, development and training of Medical Leadership from foundation to the completion of specialty training

I have a clinical interest in Palliative medicine, having worked in St Anne’s Hospice for 25 years.

My life outside medicine involves my wife and I supporting and enjoying our children and grandchildren, taking every opportunity to catch a few holidays during the year.
