Course Overview

The NW SuppoRTT Course comprises of three days. The first two days are generic, and organised centrally for the region by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the third day is a specialty specific day which is co-ordinated by your School SuppoRTT Champion. The NW SuppoRTT Course is free of charge. If you need to apply for a KIT/SPLIT or SRTT day and/or travel expenses to attend please visit our Return to Training Activities (RTT-A) page.

Session 1
  • General issues faced by returners, and particular issues of the group, plus signposting to useful resources
  • The SuppoRTT process
  • LTFT training
Session 2 Communication skills including debriefing, critical language, and assertive language with the PACE technique for raising concerns in a clinical environment. 
Session 3 Decision making
Session 4 In this interactive session we will explore recent findings from neuroscience that help us to understand more about our stress responses and explore ways to manage change in a resourceful way.

Day 2 Overview (Delivered at a choice of simulation centres in Aintree, Preston and St Helens). More detailed information about Day 2 can be found here.

*Day 2 is not recommended for those who are returning to non-patient facing specialties.

Communication Skills

  • Small group work with tailored scenarios ranging from interactions that you would find in the community or out-patient clinic to breaking bad news to relatives.
  • Aided by Communincation Skills Tutors and simulated patient actors

Resus Skills

  • Refresh your knowledge of adult and paediatric (if appropriate) basic life support,

Scenarios delivered by simulation team

  • Acute medical and surgical emergencies that you might encounter in the community, ward or other hospital settings, tailored to your work environment
  • Facilitated debrief

Day 3 is organised by your School SuppoRTT Champion and is designed to update and refresh specialty specific skills and knowledge. You can discover more in the flyers for each day in the Day 3 dates table below.

Eligibility

All doctors in training who have been out of training for a period of 3 months or more are eligible to apply for the NW SuppoRTT Course.

If you have been out of training for less than 3 months please contact the team at Lancashire Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, who manage the course for NHS England, at SuppoRTT@lthtr.nhs.uk to discuss your requirements prior to applying.
