Richard Stanage

Richard Stanage BDS MFGDP DPDS

I qualified in 1987 and did House officer jobs in Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry at Newcastle for 12 months.

After 3 years in general practice in Sunderland as an associate I took over a practice in Thornton Cleveleys in 1991.

I became a Vocational Trainer, now educational supervisor in 1993 at 28 and have educated 14 foundation dentists over the years including this one.

I gained my MFGDP in 2003 after 10 years of running a now 7 surgery mixed practice and looking after a family, followed by a DGDP at Bristol in 2005. I have a certificate in both Teaching and Clinical Learning (2009),and one in Restorative Dentistry (2011), as part of an MSc course at Warwick in Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry and am currently doing the Diploma this year.

I have been on the LDC both in Sunderland and since 1991 here in the North West and at one point the local BDA branch Secretary. I have been doing appraising since the first cohort of trainers and believe it is an excellent way to encourage and help fellow colleagues stay keen in our ever more stressful career choice.
