Joanne Rowell

Associate Dean - Hospital and Community Care
Bio: 

Joanne Rowell is a part-time General Practitioner working in a three-partnered practice in Hadfield, Derbyshire. Throughout their career, they have maintained a strong commitment to medical education—beginning as an Anatomy demonstrator for medical students and more recently serving as a Primary Care Medical Educator for GPST1 and GPST2 trainees on the Stockport Vocational Training Scheme.

They have been a GP trainer since 2006, the same year they attained a Postgraduate Certificate in General Practice Education. In August 2011, they were appointed to a part-time role as Associate Postgraduate Dean.

Their portfolio includes:

  • Supporting the Director of Medical Education at Pennine Acute NHS Trust to ensure quality management of local postgraduate medical education
  • Supporting Foundation Year doctors
  • Working with the SAS Doctors Advisory Group and addressing the educational needs of SAS doctors
  • Facilitating the service interface between the Deanery and local Clinical Commissioning Groups

In addition to their educational roles, they are actively involved in commissioning and serve as a board member of the Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group. Within this role, they jobshare as Clinical Lead for Urgent Care.
