Karen Mayle

I qualified from University of Bristol in 1992 and came to the North West to do my VT year near Blackpool. I then went on to work in a NHS  family practice in Morecambe which I subsequently bought along with my husband.

As a young dentist, I became involved with the local dental political scene, serving the Local Dentist Committee as Treasurer, secretary to the Lancaster and Morecambe  BDA and also represented the area BDA as a young dentist 'rep' on the National Young Dentist Committee in London headquarters.

A growing family meant that I had to relinquish my political activities in late 2006. However in 2008 an opportunity arose to become part of the appraisal team for North Lancs PCT. Having undertaken specific training as an appraiser I started performing appraisals for GDP's in the North Lancs PCT.I really enjoyed this role as it allowed me to encourage GDP's in the area and help them to develop themselves in their practice. This role stopped when the PCT's were dismantled in 2012.

I am now looking forward to taking up the appraiser's role once more utilising my long service experience as a NHS general dental practitioner.

If you would like to set up and appraisal contact the  appraisal team and inform us of your appraiser choice
