Longlisting: All application forms will be checked to decide whether they are eligible to go forward to the shortlisters. The longlisting will look to see that you meet the following areas of the relevant person specification:
1. You possess the qualifications required
2. You have the correct amount of experience in the specialty you are applying to
3. You have fully completed all the relevant sections of the application form and
4. Doctors who are not UK or EEA nationals and whose immigration status entitles them to work without restriction in the UK will be considered on an equal basis with UK and EEA nationals. Other non-UK or non-EEA nationals with limited leave to remain in the UK and whose employment will require Tier 2 sponsorship are subject to the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT). As the RLMT will not be deemed to have been satisfied in Round 1 of the recruitment to this specialty, applicants in this category are asked to consider applying during Round 2. Applicants may only be considered if there is no suitable UK or EEA national candidate for the post. Evidence of immigration status should normally consist of a date stamped passport and accompanying letter from the Home Office. Please visit http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk for more information.
Shortlisting: Application forms will be scored by two trained assessors against a set of shortlisting criteria that will have been agreed in advance. Application forms will be anonymised. If you score highly enough you will be invited to attend a selection centre.
Selection Centre: Questions asked at the selection centre will map to the person specification.

Introduction/ Overview
This comprehensive training programme in otolaryngology / head and neck surgery encompasses the ENT Departments within the North Western Deanery (Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria).
The curriculum will involve the acquiring of generic competencies in the first 2 years and full details of the curriculum can be viewed on the ISCP website www.iscp.ac.uk
General Description of Rotation
The CT1 and CT2 years will be spent in one of 2 sector (North or South) and will involve the acquiring of generic skills. Part of CT1 will be spent in related specialties e.g. neurosurgery, plastic surgery or general surgery, and CT2 will consist of 12 months in ENT.
Trainees will participate in the ARCP interim and final appraisal processes organised by the Deanery.
Educational Opportunities
Trainees in CT1 and CT2 will be expected to attend local educational programmes which are held in the hospital where they are working.
There is a comprehensive core teaching programme which takes place on Wednesday afternoons at Wythenshawe Hospital. Attendance is mandatory and an attendance register is kept and monitored.
The timetable for teaching can be viewed at www.surgicalcourses.com
Research / Audit / Teaching
Opportunities for clinical research exist within all departments involved in the programme and trainees are expected to take advantage of this.
All trainees should be actively involved in audit on an ongoing basis and be in a position to demonstrate this at annual appraisal and ARCP interviews.
Teaching of less experienced medical colleagues, medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff is an integral part of the post and all trainees are expected to be involved in this.
