Educational Supervision for F2 Trainees
31 March 2017
Venue TBC
Interested in becoming an Educational Supervisor for F2 Trainees?
If you are a supervisor for a trainee on a two-year LIFT (Longitudinal Integrated Foundation Training) Programme or you are a current Foundation Clinical Supervisor and would like to become an Educational Supervisor for Foundation then this is the day for you.
The North West of England Foundation School is the biggest single School in the UK and by August 2017 we will have reached our target of 100% in community placements, with every two-year Foundation Programme offering (at least) 4 months in GP.
We have an established database of Clinical Supervisors but would like to identify and encourage more GP Clinical Supervisors to become Educational Supervisors for Foundation Trainees. We are aware that many GPs have in the past been, or may wish to be in the future, Educational Supervisors (ES) in Foundation training programmes and we would like to promote and encourage that interest.
The GMC Standards include a specification around training to ES standard using an externally accredited course. To become an Educational Supervisor for Foundation you would need to be accredited and the North West of England Foundation School in conjunction with Manchester Medical School are offering the opportunity for you to attend an accredited training day in March 2017 (Accreditation is awarded by University of Manchester Medical School/AoME).
Note: If you are a current GPST trainer then you would not need to attend this course as you are already accredited to be an Educational Supervisor. We would still like to encourage and welcome your interest in becoming an Educational Supervisor for Foundation and invite you to contact us directly for more information on becoming involved.
Clinical Supervisors who are taking part in the LIFT project and are not approved as GP trainers will need to complete an accredited training course in order to fulfil the Educational Supervision requirements for the LIFT programme and as such will be given priority.
For non-LIFT programmes, remuneration is £400 per year (once accredited through an approved HEE course - such as this) for acting as Educational Supervisor for a conventional Foundation trainee and payment is made by the Foundation School in the final quarter of the academic year.
For full details of the roles and responsibilities attributed to the ES role in Foundation please visit section 5.30 – 5.35 of the Foundation Programme Reference Guide.
