I am a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and continue to maintain an active clinical role as an emergency physician. 

I entered the world of postgraduate medical education as a registrar after becoming as an instructor on the Advanced Life Support and the Advanced Trauma Life Support Courses.

Soon after becoming a Consultant in 2003, I took on the role of Foundation Programme Director in 2005 and subsequently joined the deanery team in 2007. As Associate Dean I have three broad areas of responsibilities: 

 

  • I work with the educational leads for the following specialties:  Radiology, Histopathology, and Medical Microbiology & Chemical Pathology. 
  • I support the Director of Medical Education at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust to help ensure quality management of local postgraduate medical education.
  •  I have specific portfolio responsibilities in E-learning and Medical Leadership. I led the implementation of the deanery E-learning platform at http://vlc.npgmd.nhs.uk. As the lead Associate Dean for Medical Leadership, I am responsible for a number of initiatives including the Medical Leadership Programme and the Medical Leadership in Practice Course for specialist trainees (more information at https://www.nwpgmd.nhs.uk/medical-leadership).
