Our fellowships programme is designed to provide resident doctors (RD) in the North West with the opportunity to work within NHSE teams. This will allow them to gain experience in system leadership, transformation, and service improvement, equipping them with the skills necessary to lead and work within a complex and integrated healthcare system while delivering quality improvement projects.

The ARCP Engagement Fellowship is designed to support a regional initiative aimed at improving residents’ understanding of the ARCP process and enhancing resident involvement in shaping ARCP-related policies and practices. This fellowship involves undertaking a research project, facilitating resident engagement, and developing educational materials.

Fellowships offer resident doctors the opportunity to work within NHS England Workforce, Education and Training, to gain experience and develop skills of system leadership, transformation and service improvement. This will be on 1 day a week basis for a 12 month period.
Any resident doctor in a training post in a North West hospital at ST3 or above is eligible to apply.
We are aiming to start the fellowships in the autumn, for a 12-month period on a 1 day per week basis.

Yes, resident doctors can apply for multiple fellowships (separate applications are required for each) but can only be appointed to one.
Fellowships are fully funded by NHS England, based on 1 day per week.
Fellows may reduce their clinical commitments, or they may choose to carry out this work in addition to current LTFT arrangements if suitable. Clinical and training time cannot drop below 50 percent, or exceed 100 percent. Several scenarios are outlined below:
It is important to understand that this may change the current time in training and the future certificate of completion (CCT) date. It is essential that resident doctors have a discussion with their current training programme director (TPD) and obtain their agreement prior to application.
Regular supervision and mentorship will be provided by the NHS England Associate Deans and MFT clinical data sciences team.
